A stretch of beautiful, unspoilt, sandy Oliva
beaches bordered by dunes with the backdrop of surrounding hills will
delight the beach-goer. The marshes with its complex network of lanes and
canals, inland from Oliva were recently declared a Natural Park. The unique
vegetation of canes and grasses makes the area one of the most interesting
wetland zones on the Mediterranean coast. |

Oliva
history begins with Humanity. Cove de la Cendra, in Cap d'Or, was
the scenery of the ancestor of Oliva, as testified by the archeological
discoveries studied there by experts. Muslims left the most important
traces in Oliva history after those primitive cultures; constructions,
irrigation and carving systems, houses, layout of streets, names and toponyms
give faith of this. |

The tree-lined boulevard, in the
more modern part of town, is home to the weekly Friday Oliva
market, and the permanent covered central market offers daily fresh
produce. In ancient times the market in Oliva was an annual meeting of merchants
to negotiate commercial sales and interchanges, although they also closed
marriage pacts and family agreements.
